Stories that start where the map ends.

A metal cylinder in the Darfur desert. A death-row convict sent two thousand years into the past. A manuscript buried on a hill in northern Japan. Dean De Servienti writes stories about where we come from, and in January 2027 he starts asking the great characters of literature the questions their authors never did.

The Quantum Trilogy · Complete

One probe. One passenger. One book that was never meant to be found.

Three novels, three modes (a techno-thriller, a chase across continents, a memoir written in Latin at the end of a very long life), one spine: an object that fell out of the sky and what it taught us about ourselves. Each book can be read on its own. Together they span 250 million years.

Book One

The hunt for an object that has been watching us since before the dinosaurs.

Read the blurb

In a refugee camp in Darfur, a starving boy hands a doctor a gleaming metal cylinder he dug out of the desert. In a London laboratory, six scientists date the rock around it to 250 million years. Then the cylinder switches itself on.

It is a probe from a civilisation far older than ours, and it has been recording life on Earth since before the dinosaurs. What it knows about the origin of human beings could shake every faith on the planet. The scientists vanish with it. The CIA follows. So does an alliance of Rome, Jerusalem and Riyadh, which has hired the most expensive assassin in the world, a figure known only as Shadow. Their one protector, the antiquities hunter Yoshi Araki, keeps them a step ahead from Miami to the Florida Keys, until Shadow corners them in a burning laboratory and Yoshi discovers who Shadow is.

“Smart sci-fi with a much-desired object that’s far more engaging than the average MacGuffin.”Kirkus Reviews

The Time Passenger

Unpublished manuscriptComplete92,000 words

A death-row convict is secretly spared, trained, and sent 2,000 years into the past. The journal he leaves behind becomes the most dangerous document in the world.

Read the blurb

Jude Chariot poisoned a United States senator with hemlock, called 9-1-1, and asked for the death penalty. He got it. What the world doesn’t know is why.

Three weeks before his execution, a CIA officer named Jeff Bradley visits death row with an offer. The Agency has spent nine years reverse-engineering a machine that fell out of the sky, and it can send a human being backward in time, once, one way. They need a passenger who is young, brilliant, fluent in dead languages, and already officially dead. Jude’s execution is staged. Six months later he is sealed in a capsule and launched into an era he isn’t told until the final minute, with a single mission: live a life, write it down, and bury the book where the CIA can find it.

The excavation teams find nothing. Then Jude’s former lawyer receives a letter in his handwriting, dated six months after his death.

The Memoir of a Chrononaut

The recovered manuscript itself: the memoir of the man who was sent back, and of the name history gave him.

Read the blurb

Written in Latin at the end of a long life and presented in the translation of an Oxford philologist, The Codex is the book Danielle and Bradley dug up at the end of The Time Passenger. It begins on a March morning in AD 6, with a naked man waking near the Dead Sea in the middle of a revolt, and it ends seventy years later in the mountains of northern Japan, where a healer the villagers call Yuta is buried on a hill above Herai with his book.

In between: a Roman garrison, a slave girl bought and freed, seventeen years on an Egyptian estate, a village teacher in Galilee, and the one thing Jude was never trained for: knowing exactly how the story ends and being unable to change it.

Future is now, not tomorrow. If we do not approach these times of rapid changes with a different view, meaning if we do not adapt quickly enough, we will be doomed as species.

The Buyers

I Compratori · English & Italian editions

Fortunes are made in the heart of the continent, and someone always pays in blood.

Deep in the African forest, a handful of men are getting rich, and the price is paid by people who never agreed to pay it. A novel about violence and greed, and about the courage it takes to stand in their way, drawn from the years its author spent in West Africa.

“One may not reach the dawn save by the path of the night.” Kahlil Gibran

Cover of Life Turns by Dean De Servienti: a traveller looks across the desert toward a mud-brick city at sunset

Life Turns

Giri di Vite · English & Italian editions

When a life comes apart, the desert is a good place to find out what is left.

A journey into the Sahara and into the quietest rooms of a man’s life. The most personal of Dean De Servienti’s novels: a story about what matters when everything else has been taken away, set in the one landscape that does not lie.

“But it sufficeth that the day will end, and then the end is known.” Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

Africa is the place in which we, as humans, were born. Once you get there you could love it or hate it, but this sensation of being in the cradle of humankind, well, this will stay with you forever.

The Author Left Early.

The author has left the room. The character stays, and answers.

An interview series in which Dean De Servienti sits down with characters from literature, in their own world, at the moment of their story when they have the most to answer for. Odysseus the morning after the slaughter in his hall. Dorian Gray with the key to the locked room in his pocket. Lady Macbeth the night she cannot wash her hands. The host knows how each story ends. He never says it.

One text, one guest.

Every guest is anchored to a single work: Homer’s Odysseus, not “Ulysses” in general. The character says what the author made him think, in the language of his time, and the host argues back with the text and with the present.

Twelve minutes, five movements.

Origins. The wound. The act the character has to defend. What they make of the year 2027. And a last word to the author who wrote them, now that the author has left.

Made honestly.

Each guest is played by an actor and reconstructed with AI; the host is real; every episode says so in its opening frame. All the works are in the public domain.

About the author

Journalist, documentary producer, novelist. In that order, and all at once.

Dean De Servienti was born in Italy in 1961 and has been travelling since he was seventeen. As a political science student he spent long stretches in West Africa, learning the territory and its people; between 1991 and 1995 he worked with non-governmental organisations in Africa and in Central and South America. In the 1990s he moved to the United States, where he produced independent travel-adventure documentary series that were licensed to more than twenty television channels around the world.

Since 2008 he has written fiction, with travel as his main source of material. His first novel, Quantum, was selected by Italy’s Scuola Holden among the thirty best debut novels of 2011, reached number one on Amazon.it’s ebook bestseller list in 2013 and has sold more than 20,000 copies in Italian. The English edition was a Foreword INDIES Book of the Year finalist in Thriller & Suspense, and in 2021 it became a 32-voice full-cast audiobook with an original score. The trilogy it opened is now complete.

In 2027 he launches TALE, a YouTube series in which he interviews the characters of the books he grew up with.

For literary agents and press

The trilogy is finished. Here is what you need.

A death-row convict is secretly spared, trained, and sent 2,000 years into the past, and the journal he leaves behind becomes the most dangerous document in the world.

TP-001: The Time Passenger (Book Two, 92,000 words) is the entry point: a high-concept commercial thriller that needs no knowledge of Book One. The Codex (Book Three, 115,000 words) is complete. Both are unpublished. Quantum (Book One) was first published in Italian in 2011 and self-published in English in 2016; the revised 2026 edition is ready and the English-language rights are the author’s.
